Lately...

I've started working on a baby blanket.  It seems like it's been ages since I've actually worked on something.  I've started many projects but haven't been able to finish any of them.  Seems like the business of life just gets in the way of my creative mojo. So I have to say that it feels so good to get my hands on some yarn and start working again.
A lady in our church is expecting a baby boy in October.  I'm going out of my comfort zone and trying to knit this one instead of crochet.  I saw this blanket on a blog, Hooking the Yarn, and thought it looked easy enough for me to tackle.  But the truth is I've already made a couple of mistakes.
:(
I'm using this green yarn because I already had it in my stash and also I wanted to stay away from the traditional baby blue.  Not sure if I like it or not but hopefully it will grow on me.  I just hope I'm able to finish it.
Went shopping a couple of days ago at our local thrift.
I was so happy to find this Texas shaped potholder. I almost squealed when I saw it.  There was no way this wasn't coming home with me.

I knew it would fit in well in my kitchen.  I have a few other things on display that goes along with the Texas theme.  I may live in New Mexico but I'm really a Texas girl at heart.
I also found these really cool vintage wooden alphabet blocks.
I always check the toy aisle.
I'm the nursery director at our church and I'm always on the hunt for good toys for our toddlers.
Since our nursery already has blocks, these will be used for display only.
I thought these would look so pretty in a big glass jar sitting on a shelf on the wall.
We also have a baby shower coming up soon for the lady I'm knitting the baby blanket for and I thought I could use these somehow in the decorating.
So many possibilities.  I think I'll be reaching for these time and time again.
Here's a photo of my little miniature doxie.  I had to get a few photos of her while I had my camera out.
She's a natural.

xx,
Beca

  1. Hi Beca, it's hard to knit/crochet when things are so busy in our lives. I do hope you get your mojo back. The blanket sounds like a challenge but I hope it works out for you. Your mini doxie is so adorable! Do take care.

  2. Crafty mojo does have to take a backseat at times. You're off to a great start on the knitting; I love the green. Love the potholder! We're recent Texas transplants, so I'm drawn to anything Texas. Oh, your mini doxie is so cute! Take care.

  3. Your baby blanket is coming along nicely and I love the fresh green color. Fun finds as the thrift store. The blocks would indeed make a nice decoration at the baby shower. Have a great day, Heather

  4. Hi Beca! I love the color of the baby blanket. I made one similar to that color about 2-3 years ago. I guess that's what's the in-colors with new moms! I tend to crochet baby stuff in traditional colors too.
Doxie is sure a natural!!! She's so pretty!!!

Nice that you're going to knit something. I'm also knitting sometimes but much better in crochet.
Started following your blog from now on.

  6. Love the colour of the blanket, such a refreshing change from the traditional blue. I also loved the blocks, they could be used for so many things what a great find. I am trying knitting at the moment too but I am not enjoying it I prefer to crochet.
