Hello January...

No more jingle bells and twinkle lights...

all the Christmas decorations are gone.

They were boxed and tucked away the day after Christmas and it felt good.

There's always an element of comfort in getting the house "back to normal".
♥♥

The Christmas tree this old pick up was hauling during the holidays was replaced with a potted succulent.  I borrowed this little pick up from my husbands office.  I don't think he'll be getting it back anytime soon now that I found a use for it as a planter.

For New Years Day I made black eye peas in the slow cooker with collard greens.  Hubby liked them but I didn't.  I had a small bowl with some cornbread.  I remember in elementary school having black eyed peas on the lunch menu about once a week.  I didn't like them then and I guess I still don't like them now.  It 's a good thing we only have to eat them once a year.

I do, however, like the idea of starting off the new year eating a humble meal.  After all the food and excess of the holidays it's a welcome change.  And while I don't believe in "good luck", I do believe it helps to reset you and put you in the right frame of mind to start off the year.

A little simplicity is good for the heart.

One big happy family + one puppy + one cat = one very full casita (house).

The kids are still on holiday from school so I spend most of my days planning and preparing meals and doing loads and loads of laundry.   So while things aren't quite back to normal yet, they will be soon enough.

  1. Lovely pictures - happy new year :) Also enjoying the simplicity post Christmas, but wish normality didn't have to come knocking quite so quickly!

  2. There may be no more twinkling lights in your "casita" but there are always lovely vignettes created by you to put a smile in my day. That pick up 'carrying' the succulent is fabulous. Enjoy having your kids home.

  3. "A little simplicity is good for the heart." Love this, Beca! I am still working on putting Christmas away. Years ago, I would have them all out away before New Years. This year we are organizing holiday decorations and donating some we don't use any more. I don't think I've had collard greens before. I didn't put any in my black eyed peas which I did enjoy eating but after 4 days in a row, I'm done with them. xo

  7. Great post. I started taking down my Christmas decorations the day after Christmas too. It took me about three days to have everything put away. By the way, your black eyed peas and collards look yummy!
