Cheap Books...

I shopped a book sale the other day...
and it was fun.

Is that a mark of getting "old"?  When you eagerly anticipate the local annual book sale at the public library?  Well if it is, then I suppose hubby and I have both reached that stage in life.

The nice thing was the place was packed.  We've gone in years past but we've always shown up a day or two into it.  This is the first time we've gone on opening day.  It was supposed to start at five and we arrived at 5:20 and it was super crowded.

Shelf after shelf of books.  All the reading you could ever want.  I remember looking around and being pleasantly surprised about how many people still enjoy picking up a book.  With everything going digital these days I didn't think that many people would show up., but they did, and the excitement of the thrill of the hunt was in the air.

Hubby is the real book worm in the family.  His job as a pastor requires him to do a lot of reading, but he enjoys it as well.  There is always a small stack of books on his nightstand and on the end table beside his reading chair.  It usually consists of a Bible and two or three other Christian books.  That is mostly what he reads and that is what he was hoping to find.

I went mostly for company.  I used to do more reading when I was younger.  It's something that has  gotten away from me as the kids have grown and life has become fuller.  I'm hoping that one day I'll get back into it. In the meantime I'm collecting a assortment of fun reads for when that day comes.

So maybe enjoying the annual book sale is not a sign of getting old.  Maybe we've just learned to appreciate the little things in life.  Maybe we've come to understand that there can be joy and contentment in the "daily" in buying a little twenty five cent book.

It's the little things.

  1. I love going to book sales Beca. It's nice that you and your husband enjoyed yourselves and bought some books. I love holding a book in my hands to read. I read books but I'm a very slow reader and only read one or two chapters a day when I'm reading a book!

  3. This li'l ol' bibliophile considers there is nothing quite like turning up at a book sale with the excitement of adding to one's library. =) What a fabulous opportunity to fossick for that perfect book, or two. I always think that not only is there a good read within the covers of a book but they make excellent decorating props as well. Love the bindings of books! I don't suppose I will ever buy a Kindle...I love the old fashion way of reading; of holding a book, turning page after page till the end. Fabulous both you and your husband came away with a selection of books, Beca.

  7. Book sales are my kind of fun. Hunkering down with a good book (new or used), a cozy lap blanket, and a hot cup of tea is bliss. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  9. I also love to read and love books. My husband did too. For Christmas this year I ordered 10 books and put them under the tree for myself and have been enjoying them and will enjoy them for time to come. I underline things that speak to me in books and enjoy going back and reading them again, sometimes getting new insights.

    Have a wonderful 2020 ~ FlowerLady
