Girls Crochet Capelet

Custom order finished, it's been picked up, and it's sitting under the Christmas tree waiting to be opened by a four year old little girl and her American girl doll.

I mentioned in my last post that a sweet local lady asked me to make a capelet and matching headband for her little girl for Christmas.  She sent me a picture of what she wanted and also asked if I could please make a matching set for the little girl's doll. She said her little girl liked to dress like her doll and worried about her doll being cold.

This is the finished capelet.
This is the photo she sent me.  She wanted a white capelet, a white headband and pink flowers.  She requested it be made a little longer than the photo.

I used a pattern from Crochet Today as a guideline.  I improvised a little bit on the last few rows.  Since she wanted a longer length, I wanted it to flare out slightly towards the bottom to allow for arm movement.

The rolled rose pattern is from my friend Olga's blog Lacy Crochet.
Here you can see the  two sets.  One for the little girl and the other for her doll.
The hardest part for me was making all the small pieces like the flowers and the leaves.  It's so much easier, I think, to crochet one large continuous piece and only have two ends to weave in, rather than one small flower with many pieces to sew together and a gazillion ends that need to be woven in.
This is the doll capelet.  I think it is so sweet.  It makes me want to buy a doll...
Really?  At my age???
Well... maybe not.
I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project.  I would happily make it again if given the opportunity.  Best of all, the lady was very pleased with it.  She said it was perfect and it was just what she was wanting.  After she took it home she sent me a message saying she tried the clothes on the doll and they fit perfectly.  I was thrilled.  All that measuring and remeasuring I did while making them paid off.
She said she'd send me a picture after Christmas.  I sure hope she does.  I would love to see it.  :)

 Off to make my rounds...

Til next time friends,
